This year is the 25th anniversary of the Rays franchise. One of the things being done this year is starting up a team Hall of Fame. The first ever inductee was honored today: the late Don Zimmer, who was bench coach and an executive assistant for 11 years…the longest he’d ever spent with one team, and the final 11 years of his life. His widow and son were on hand for the ceremony. His son actually commented that he feels Zimmer’s time with the team extended his life. In 60 years at the major league level, he played, coached, and/or managed for 14 franchises.
Two more individuals will be inducted to the team Hall later this season: Wade Boggs and Carl Crawford.
