Chip Caray has been announced as the new TV announcer for the St Louis Cardinals. This follows being the voice of Braves games the past two decades. He replaces Dan McLaughlin, had been announcing Cardinals games for 24 years but who also last month got his third DUI.
I wouldn’t normally bother putting up a post about a TV announcer, but this is an exception. Why? Because from 1945-1969, the voice of the Cardinals was Harry Caray, Chip Caray’s grandfather. Pretty cool.
Now that’s before my time. I remember Harry Caray as the voice of the Cubs and leading the Wrigley faithful in “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” during the seventh inning stretch. Skip Caray, Chip’s father/Harry’s son was also a long time announcer.
