74-88, 4th in the NL West. That’s not a good record, but it’s a lot better than the 52-110 that the Diamondbacks suffered through in 2021. 2022 was their fifth straight no-playoffs season. They have a core of position players to build around in Christian Walker, Ketel Marte, Geraldo Perdomo, and Daulton Varsho. They got good pitching seasons from starters Merrill Kelly and Zac Gallen. Whether they can build around those players remain to be seen.
Relief pitcher Ian Kennedy left as a free agent to sign with the Rays. Starter Zach Davies is a free agent. The aging/declining Madison Bumgarner and Mark Melancon will be taking up roster spots in 2023 (and Bumgarner in 2024 as well). Their one free agent signing so far is pitcher Miguel Castro, which won’t move the team fortunes much.
