The Nationals won the World Series in 2019. I’m sure that feels like ancient history to Nationals fans. They were 55-107 this year, the worst in MLB. About the only holdover left from the 2019 squad is Stephen Strasburg, and he spent almost the whole season on the IL. Juan Soto and Josh Bell were easily their best hitters, and both got traded to the Padres. Their team ERA was 5.00, “good” for 29th out of 30 teams, ahead of only the victims of Coors Field.
The Nationals are full tear down and rebuild mode. They need…everything. Right now I think their hope for Strasburg is that he comes back strong…to garner more prospects in another trade. Don’t expect this team to be appreciably better next season.
