First Ever Prearbitration Bonus Pool Payouts

One of the results of the new CBA was the owners’ agreeing to create a bonus pool for the top 100 players who have not yet qualified for arbitration. The total pool is $50M. Most (over $38M) is based on a MLB/MLBPA agreed upon WAR formula (different formulas for pitchers vs position players). The rest (a bit over $11M) for players who finish first or second in Rookie of the Year balloting or top 5 in either MVP voting.

The first payments were announced today. 3 (Dylan Cease, Yordan Alvarez, and Alex Manoah) received more than $2M each. 8 more got over $1M plus another 11 raking in $500K or more.
