Postmortem: Kansas City Royals

65-97. Dead last in the AL Central. There were pundits who called them sleeper picks for contention. Nope. They did play quite a few rookies, at one point they played 6 rookie position players at the same time. One would normally expect some growing pains with that. However, the owner was apparently tired of it and the team’s sixth straight season out of the playoffs. Both manager Mike Matheny and GM Dayton Moore were given the heave ho.

The Royals were basically middle of the pack n hitting, but near the worst in baseball in pitching. That has to be the new GM’s job one. To replace Matheny, they’ve hired Matt Quatraro who was the Rays’ bench coach.
