The Braves went 101-61. After a subpar April and May, they caught fire, winning at least 18 games each month from June through September, ultimately overtaking a not-fading Mets to win the NL East division. Michael Harris II won the Rookie of the Year Award, beating out teammate pitcher Spencer Strider. They let Freddie Freeman depart in free agency last year but replaced him well with Matt Olson. They were upset in the ALDS by the third place Phillies—of course every favored team was defeated in the NL playoffs this year.
Kenley Jansen is a free agent. More importantly, so is Dansby Swanson. There are other good shortstops on the market (Trea Turner, Xander Bogaerts, Carlos Correa), all ages 28-30 (Swanson will be 29), but Swanson should be the least expensive of the 4. The Braves would be well served to re-sign him, and he will have plenty of suitors if they don’t step up.
