It has been presumed that the Cardinals’ pitcher Adam Wainwright was hanging up his cleat after this season—heading into the sunset along with teammates Yadier Molina and Albert Pujols. Not so fast. He never actually said he was hanging up the cleats, and now it seems he will instead return for an 18th major league season at the age of 41. Still an above average pitcher, it’s likely he will reach 200 career wins in 2023, barring injury. Terms of his new contract with the Cardinals have not been released as yet.
This is the second news release in the last 24 hours about a player who broke into the majors with the Cardinals in 2005…the other being the Marlins hiring Skip Schumaker as their new manager.
