Aroldis Chapman Off NYY ALDS Roster

By pretty much every measure, 2022 has been 34-year-old Aroldis Chapman’s worst season in the majors. This weekend he made it worse. On Friday he was in Miami when he was supposed to be in New York participating in a team workout. Per the Yankees manager, Alex Cora, he did not have a good enough reason for playing hooky. As a result, he will not be on the playoff roster for the Division Series against the Guardians.

This season he had a 4.59 ERA, ERA+ 88, 1.54 K/BB ratio, -0.2 WAR…and those are just a sampling of career-worst stats for him. He is a free agent at the end of the season. Now he looks to be burning bridges with the Bronx Bombers. It’s fair to wonder what, if any, any team offers him… especially adding in the well-known personal baggage in his past. I would not want him on my team.
