Tonight Albert Pujols slammed career home runs 699 and 700. They came in the third and fourth innings at the Dodgers. The third inning blast was a 434 foot bomb to left center. The second homer was also to left center, just not as deep into the stands. The Cardinals beat the Dodgers 11-0, and Pujols drove in the first 5 with the two dingers.
He’s only the 4th player with 700 homers, behind Barry Bonds (762), Hank Aaron (755), and Babe Ruth (714). Those were also his 20th and 21st homers of the season. He’s only the second player with 20+ home runs at the age of 42 or older (Barry Bonds with 28 in 2007).

Possibly he will be the last player to get to 700. Here’s the active HR leader board:

I think somebody will do it, but I don’t think that person is currently in pro ball. The best bet among active players is, I think, Trout if he avoids major injury…but I think he gets to around 600.
