Update: Pujols Passes Rodriguez

In the sixth inning of tonight’s game against the Pirates, the Cardinals’ Albert Pujols launched the 696th home run of his illustrious career. That ties him with Alex Rodriguez for 4th most all time. With just over three weeks left in the season, he has a legitimate shot at also becoming the fourth man to reach 700. Remarkable.

Update: Well, that didn’t last long. On Sunday, the very next day, Pujols launched career homer #697 of his career, moving him into fourth place by himself, no tie. It was a two-run bomb in the 9th that put the Cardinals ahead of the Pirates for good in a 4-3 win. He has hit 54 homers off the Pirates, his third favorite victim (59 vs the Cubs and 62 vs the Astros—of course he also played against the Astros more than anyone else too).
