A’s Release Elvis Andrus

Earlier this week Elvis Andrus vented his frustration about perceived insufficient playing time. “Everyone knows I’m an ever day player.” He’d been playing on a one year deal for $14M. However, if he were to reach 550 plate appearances, a $15M team option for next year would become a player option for the same amount. He had 386 plate appearances through yesterday.

The A’s response? They let it be known they did not appreciate a public airing of the grievances when it’s not Festivus yet. Further, they felt that with 1.3 WAR and a 97 OPS+ was insufficient in performance of feats of strength even if it were Festivus. Thus they released him.

So, now, at least until he latches on elsewhere…he’s not an every player.
