The eight teams for the College World Series is set. The Super Regionals wrapped up tonight with Stanford and Auburn advancing, both 2 games to 1 over their opponents. Stanford is the #2 seed in the NCAA baseball tournament, so they are no surprise. Auburn, however, as the #14 seed, upset #3 Oregon State in Corvallis. Indeed, that was the theme of this year’s Super Regionals—upsets. Four of the teams in the CWS were unseeded. Notre Dame upended #1 Tennessee. Arkansas eliminated #10 North Carolina (after also dumping #7 Oklahoma State in the Regionals). Ole Miss went through #11 Southern Miss after dispatching #6 Miami in the Regionals. Oklahoma got past #4 Virginia Tech. The other two teams in the CWS are Texas A&M (#5) and Texas (#9)—who beat #8 East Carolina at their home field and is thus technically in via an upset too. The CWS starts Friday and should be a wide open, fun tournament.
