Rookie lefty Reid Detmers tossed a no-hitter at the Tampa Bay Rays yesterday. Two batters reached base, one on a walk, one on an error. He also had two strikeouts. Other than the error, virtually nobody put good wood on the ball for the Rays as they got crushed 12-0. It was also the Angels’ 12th no-no ever—if that seems like a lot, remember they once had a guy named Ryan. It is also the second no-hitter of the year one month into the season.
Only two strikeouts? 25 balls in play and not a single hit. Weakly hit or not he’s a fortunate young man. Has this ever happened before?
