Lance Berkman and Jose Cruz, Jr were teammates at Rice University, spent one year as roomies and became good buds. Cruz is the sone of long-time Astro Jose Cruz, Sr and spent 12 years in MLB himself—6 years with the Blue Jays but also wearing the uniforms of 8 other big league teams, including one season with the Rays. Berkman, of course, had a very good career as one of the Astros’ “Killer Bees.” Today I learned where they are now—both in Houston. Both are in their first season as a college baseball head coach: Cruz at their alma mater, the Rice Owls, and Berkman for the Houston Baptist Huskies. The two teams played each other yesterday (pretty nippy for baseball though—see the featured photo) with Cruz and the Owls picking up their first win.
