Terrible news from California today. Former Oakland A Jeremy Giambi has died at the too-young age of 47. One report I saw indicated EMS was called to his parents’ home for a medical emergency. Another indicated that it is a suspected suicide.
(UPDATE: The report of suicide was confirmed by the coroner. He died by self-inflicted gunshot wound at his parents’ home.)
He was the player put out at home on the famous Derek Jeter “flip play” in the 2001 ALDS. He was part of the “Moneyball” 2002 A’s until traded. He was one of the first players to admit knowingly using anabolic steroids during the 2003 BALCO investigation.
