Every year on Memorial Day weekend people thank me for my service as a US military retiree. When they do, I smile and say “thank you,” just like I do every other day of the year. However, Memorial Day isn’t about people like me—that’s Veterans Day.
Memorial Day is about the men and women who sacrificed their lives in service to our country.
Please, enjoy your day. Go to a ball game or cookout or whatever. The men and women who gave their last full measure of devotion would want that. It’s our freedom and our way of life they died to defend. Again, enjoy your day, but take a moment to remember those who gave everything to make sure you could.
