This time it was Corey Kluber of the Yankees against the Rangers on 101 pitches, 9 strikeouts and 1 walk. It’s the second one is as many days and 6 (7) less than 1/3 of the way into the season.
The record is 7 in a season (1990, 1991, and 2012). That’s now been unofficially tied. With as poorly as players are hitting all across MLB, it seems likely the record will be officially broken as well.
I’ve posted that the Three True Outcomes ideology is resulting in record numbers of strikeouts. The all or nothing approach is also now devaluing the no-hitter.
I haven’t checked but I’m betting that the number of complete 9 inning games went up by exactly one since yesterday. So that makes 6 complete 9 inning games that were no hitters and at most 13 (13 – the number of 7 inning “complete” games) that were complete 9 inning games that were not no hitters so far this season.
Will this be the year that the number of 9 inning complete no hit games is equal to or greater than the number of complete 9 inning games that were not no hitters.
