Shohei Ohtani =/= Babe Ruth, but…

Shohei Ohtani has been hitting the ball hard. He also entered last night’s game against the Rangers tied for the MLB lead in home runs (7). He did not hit one last night, but did score three times and knock in two more runs. He was also the pitcher of record, notching the win and 9 strikeouts. Being the starting pitcher last night also now makes him the answer to a fun little trivia bit: He’s the first pitcher in a century to start a game as the MLB leader in home runs. Babe Ruth was the last. On June 13, 1921 Ruth started on the mound for the Yankees against the Tigers and had 19 homers on the season at that point.

It was also Ohtani’s first official win since 2018, prior to his TJS.

  1. He’s so amazing. The Angels really have a lot to offer. If I wasn’t old and couldn’t stay up for the time difference, I’d totally be watching the Angels!

    1. …and Trout is hitting .426 and up to 1.7 WAR already. With Rendon back from injury now, this could be a very interesting team.
