Angel Hernandez Strikes Out

As you may recall, Angel Hernandez filed a lawsuit against MLB in 2017 alleging that he has not been promoted to a permanent crew chief position or worked a World Series since 2005 due to racial discrimination and personal animosity by Joe Torre. Today a federal court in New York ruled in MLB’s favor and dismissed the suit in a summary judgment. Among other things in his 26 page opinion, Judge Oetken stated no reasonable jury would find in his favor and that the evidence provided by MLB proves satisfactorily that Hernandez’s lack of upward mobility has been due to performance.

In fairness, a Boston University study indicated Hernandez did not have the highest error rate among MLB umps. His 2.2 wrong ball/strike calls per inning was second worst…behind Joe West.
