The Royals’ Alex Gordon announced he’s hanging up his spikes. He will have spent his entire big league career with Kansas City. Only George Brett and Frank White can say they played for the team longer.
When he came up, he almost was a bust as an infielder. However, his career took off when he moved to the outfield. He made 3 all star teams, won 7 gold gloves and 3 defensive player of the year awards. He was a key part of the Royals’ consecutive pennant winners and the world championship victory over the Mets. For his career, he was a league average hitter and thus won’t be getting any significant Hall of Fame love. However, the Royals should certainly honor him in some way.
