The Rays beat the Blue Jays today to finish their first series of the season at 2-1. Yesterday Brandon Lowe hit a go-ahead triple. Today, it was Kevin Kiermaier’s turn. With the Blue Jays leading 5-4 in the bottom of the 10th, Kiermaier got his first hit of the season, a walk-off 2-run triple. It also means the start-a-guy-at-second in extra innings thing came into play here. The Blue Jays plated a run in the top of the inning on a sacrifice fly; the Rays, of course, scored the runner who started on base plus one.
Other Rays notes: Blake Snell served as an opener today, limited to two innings by his manager as he works back from injury, and did not allow a run.
Ji-Man Choi normally took a few swings from the right side of the plate at the start of batting practice last year before switching to hitting left-handed. Apparently with the extended offseason, he worked on actually becoming a switch hitter. He’d never taken an actual at bat right handed before today…then today, in his first ever at bat right handed, parked the ball beyond the left field fence.
