A few days ago I posted that Yasiel Puig was offered a deal by the O’s. Then I updated that when he instead agreed to a deal with the Braves.
Today, he tested positive for COVID-19. His deal with the Braves was contingent upon testing negative. This, he is still a free agent and likely to remain one until he clears the testing protocols and might actually be useful to some team. Maybe.

Am I a bad person because I got a good laugh out of this?

Well, maybe. But do you really care? 🙂
Puig has a real way of draining all sympathy for himself from everyone.

I don’t know. I feel for him. I don’t feel like he brings it all on himself. He’s not even close to being one of the guys I root against. Jon Lester testing positive — I am here for that!

Please relay to Paper that I personally want him to return here. That I and probably most of all of the rest of us don’t even remember what he and Gator were arguing about when he decided to leave. That baseball is way way more than whether or not baseball should or shouldn’t have a universal DH. Or anything other fucking thing. I’m guessing that just like me he drinks too much, but that’s probably wishful thinking.

For the record, I don’t think Paper was mad at Gator. I don’t remember an argument between them.

Plus, Gator’s ditched us over the universal DH, so if him being here is an issue for Paper, then problem solved.

I didn’t find Puig all that personally repugnant. But you must admit, as was said of the Palestinians in the Middle East, he never misses an opportunity to miss an opportunity.

Thanks, Raysfan. I really didn’t go that far. But life seemed to redirect me for a while. And then after the Astros fiasco I didn’t feel like commenting much, here or at HardballTalk.
I wondered where Gator was. We are almost exact contemporaries, with a lot of common experiences of the 60’s time period. Hope he is doing well. But I know how life can distract.

As of last week Gator is not commenting here. He has left all things modern baseball in protest of the NL using the DH.
I haven’t been on HBT at all since November. Bill Baer blocked me for calling him biased and unprofessional (in those words, nothing stronger). Guess I should have added thin-skinned. I realized afterward I’d been getting grumpy there, have been happier not visiting that site.

Wow. I might have just called him a click-hog. Sorry to hear that, although it really doesn’t amount to much in the grand scheme of things, does it? Maybe I’ll try to hang around here a bit.

That’d be great.

Folks, just to set the record straight, I didn’t leave FI to “protest” the DH. I left because of my lack of interest in designatedhitterball. It’s been around in the American league for decades and I stopped watching AL games long, long ago (including playoffs and most AL home field games during the WS) for the same reason. I find it boring and monotonous. Or, to put it another way, I left not in a huff but with a shrug. If you can still enjoy the game, by all means go ahead. It just doesn’t work for me.

Deciding to not watch baseball in the NL because you find the DH boring and monotonous = not watching in protest of the universal DH in my mind. No offense was meant, nor an implication that you were angry about it.
Guess I was wrong that you left us entirely too, although it did seem that way.
