After having to suffer the cruel indignity of waiting for years on the ballot only to be voted in last minute and by a slim margin, Colorado Rockies legend Larry Walker has to wait, once again, to make it into the Hall of Fame.
Since the day he got the call, resplendent in a Spongebob Squarepants racing shirt, I have been wondering what Walker would wear to the ceremony, what kind of wacky thing he’d say, and how many times he’d cry. But alas. Walker, along with Derek Jeter, Ted Simmons and Marvin Miller, will be inducted during the 2021 Class ceremonies due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
I know that they say good things come to those who wait, but sometimes you’ve just waited long enough. Poor Larry Walker definitely has.
It’s a shame he has to wait for his ceremony, Ted Simmons too—having also waited too long.
Still, ceremony and speeches or not, Larry Walker is already a Hall of Famer. Baseball Reference says so. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/w/walkela01.shtml
I feel bad for the Cooperstown merchants too. Induction week is almost as important to the local economy as Christmas there.

Considering that the museum is also closed indefinitely, the village is probably in pretty bad shape.

That gives Jeter’s handlers another year to convince Andre Dawson to show up at the ceremony. Frankly, I kinda hope the Hawk tells them to go fly a kite on a wire in a thunderstorm.
