Prof: Happy Friday! We made it, fam. Let’s celebrate with a little Girl Power Friday, shall we? I’m going to feature a woman whose career and look never stays the same.
Blue Jays 8, Orioles 4 – Prof: Baby Bs and the G-Unit strike again. And again. Fresh off his cycle, Cavan Biggio went yard and had three ribbies to continue his personal beatdown of the Baltimore Orioles. Lourdes Gurriel Jr also had a home run and an RBI single, while Vlad Jr had a two run double. For Baltimore, a quick glance at the box score shows us more of the usual – Trey Mancini’s valiant efforts going to waste. Someone please save this man from his fate.
Tigers 0, Spiders 7 – Scouts: The land of Cleve is back in the Wild Card spot, thanks to a season long drumming of the Tigers. The Tigers have won just 1 of 19 games verses Clevland. Franmil Reyes homered for the Spiders, and Mike Clevinger pitched 6 innings of the shutout.
Royals 5, Twins 8 – Scouts: The Twins were in a hole early after Kyle Gibson left after just 1.2 innings allowing 3 runs and 4 walks. But 4 homers later (2 by Nelson Cruz) and they were able to pull away with the win.
Phillies 4, Braves 5 – Prof: Ronald Acuna Jr. is the Chosen One. I’m not the one who makes the rules, folks, I just abide by them. He became the second youngest player in MLB history to hit 40 homers in a season, and he’s only three stolen bases away from making the 40/40 club. Tell me that’s not special! You can’t! The pitcher who is quietly having a Cy Young season, the “Maple Maddux” as they call him – Mike Soroka – had another solid outing with five innings and five strikeouts. Freddie Freeman also had two RBI and Atlanta’s magic number is now ONE.
Mariners 6, Pirates 5 F/11 – Scouts: Yusei Kikuchi struggled a lot for Seattle, allowing 4 runs on 8 hits in 4 innings pitched. Thankfully Joe Musgrove wasn’t much better allowing 4 runs over 5 innings. The winning run came on a ground out double play by Austin Nola in the 11th. Not exactly the most exciting way to win a ball game, but they say a win is a win.
Giants 4, Red Sox 5 – Prof: Nothing like almost getting swept at home to get your butts in gear, right? Boston finally plays like they belong at Fenway, and avoids the humiliation of being swept. Eduardo Rodriguez struck out ten in six innings, while Xander Bogaerts had two RBI singles. Rafael Devers also had two RBI singles, and now has 110 RBI for the season. MadBum gets the loss.
Padres 1, Brewers 5 – Prof: The Brewers are roaring back to life in these late games. With Chicago and St. Louis playing each other, each ding and scrape only adds to the high drama within the NL Central. Meanwhile, the Brewers only need to continue to win these games. If they do, they just might make a miraculous recovery to the crown, or at least a wild card berth. Lorenzo Cain had a home run, the pitching staff combined to K sixteen batters, and the Crew are now 83-70. Let’s go now to their division rivals…
Cardinals 5, Cubs 4 F/10 – Scouts: The Cubs have had a bit of tough luck lately, losing their last 3, all by 2 or fewer runs. Once to Cincinnati, and now twice to St Luis. This one was a real heart breaker, with Matt Carpenter hitting a solo homer in the 10th. I wouldn’t go so far as to say it’s panic time, but this set was really big for the Cubs, who are now 4 games back in the division. They still have three more games to go in the series, and the Cubs are just a game behind Milwaukee for the final wild card spot, but certainly their margin of error is shrinking.
Angels 1, Yankees 9 – Scouts: 100 wins for New York and it’s exactly the number of wins they needed to clinch the AL East title. This is their first division title since 2012, which is a little surprising when you think about it. Even more surprising is they got these 100 wins despite suffering from massive injuries across the board.
Nats idle last night, one up on the Brewers and two up on the Cubs now.
To add to today’s music selections, one I trot out for every “best cover other than Hendrix’ All Along the Watchtower” conversations:

Whelp, even though your boys somehow made it look harder than it really was, the Gnats sent the feesh to their centennial fail, with Jar Jar baseball raising the tureen of cheap cornmash to celebrate his newly reanimated tenure as manager.
As soon as the season ends, I’m sending the strange attractor out for a thorough annual checkout, overhaul and cleaning.
