Scouts: Another day another trade. The Evil Empire the Second picked up a new starter yesterday, while the OG Evil Empire is apparently in talks for another starter. The Evil Canucks are looking to deal J.A. Happ. I’ve even seen some whispers about the Brewers making a move. What a time to be alive. What a time to be an advertiser on MLB Trade Rumors. Is anyone else as excited as I am? Or are you just ready for the deadline to pass so we can move on with the rest of our season?
Yankees 2, Rays 3 – Scouts: Not only did the Yankees watch division rival Boston pick up Nathan Evaldi from the Rays, but they managed to lose a series they really should have won. Kevin Kiermaier and C.J. Cron each went yard and the Yankees offense is officially stuck in neutral.
Nationals 7, Brewers 3 – Scouts: Tanner Roark surprised everyone by throwing a quality start for the first time in oh, I don’t know 2018. Roark struck out 11 over 8 and probably ended up causing more than a few Nats fans to start to think “Hey, maybe we do have a shot.” Spoiler alert. You really don’t. But it’s OK, because somewhere in DC there’s still a Drunk Ovechkin splashing around pantless in a water fountain.
Tigers 8, Royals 4 – Scouts: You know, as bad as the Orioles are, the Royals really are worse. I mean they are this damn bad in the worst division in the league. And they seemingly have nothing to trade, nothing in the farm, just no future. What the hell happened? They were pretty damn good what feels like three months, 7 years ago.
D-Backs 1, Cubs 2 – Scouts: Jon Lester pitched really good, but not good enough to get the win as the bullpen came in to hoover up the W. A pair of errors by the Diamondbacks resulted in the winning run scoring in the 8th.
Athletics 6, Rangers 5 – Scouts: Khris Davis seems to hit a homer a day these days, and apparently he wasn’t satisfied with just one as he clocked two, including the game winning 2 run shot in the 9th. Could it be possible that the A’s are for real? Like really real?
Twins 12, Blue Jays 6 F/11 – Scouts: Highfives and Icecream for everyone! The Twins had themselves a day, racking up 6 runs with two outs in the 11th in a rally that must have had many Twins fans happy.
Giants 2, Mariners 3 – Scouts: Seattle just keeps on winning these 1-run ball games. I’m not sure what that means, but everytime a team wins a bunch of them it makes the news. Are they lucky? Are they good? Does it not really matter? Who knows. The nose knows.
Astros 2, Rockies 3 – Scouts: Hey um Houston. What’s up? So are you like taking a bit of a breather or what? You don’t seem to be doing real good, or really poorly lately. Just kind of treading water until the playoffs? I mean that’s a nice 5 game lead you got yourself there, but I don’t know if you’ve noticed but both Seattle and Oakland seem to be doing pretty good this year. Maybe don’t nap on them too long okay?
Padres 4, Mets 6 – Scouts: The Mets seem to be dropping players faster than they can count, and yet still found a way to pickup a win against a not so great Padres team.
Dodgers 3, Phillies 7 – Scouts: The Phils won this one of the back of a strong 5 run 5th and a pretty good performance by Jake Arrieta. Rhys Hoskins went deep once more and Jake the snake allowed just three hits and two runs over 6.
White Sox 3, Angels 11 – Scouts: Hey guys, the home-run derby was last week mmmkay? I get it the AL wasn’t really invited to that party so you decided to show off against the Sox. And show off you did. Trout (who went deep twice on the night), Pujols (That name will be forever hard for me to type) and Ohtani (Is he even pitching anymore?) all took James Shields to town. Didn’t Shields make some sort of game breaking adjustment like a month ago that “fixed” him? Maybe might want to look into that again.
Cardinals 3, Reds 7 – Scouts: The Cards kept coming close to breaking out, but couldn’t get that key hit, while the Reds racked up three homers.
Pirates 0, Spiders 4 – Scouts: Well, all good things must come to an end, and so did the Pirates 11 game winning streak. The Spiders shut out the Pirates on 3 hits as Trevor Bauer struck out 10 across 7 innings.
Update: Red Sox, Orioles – PPD – Scouts: MLB failed to show the Red Sox was Postponed due to rain last night. The game isn’t even listed on on the schedule. What the hell MLB? You trying to act like there wasn’t even a scheduled game or what? Thanks jerks! Anyways, Dylan Bundy was getting freaking rocked and down 5-0 in the second before they called it.
Woke up this morning thinking it was nice to see Tanner Roark pitch well, and knowing that the Nats were playing four in Miami starting tonight, having an internal argument around the topic of “Well, if they sweep the Marlins, then maybe they can make a run; it’s not impossible, especially with Stras and Scherzer pitching the first two.”
And then Chelsea Janes, Nats’ beat reporter for WaPo, tweeted this:
The game preview at nationals.mlb.com still talks about Strasburg pitching tonight, but the Nats roster on the same site shows him not active. No idea what happened here, but this ain’t good.

Fucking Miami, man; that town and Nats pitchers just don’t mix. This happened there last year:

I hear “Kepler, when did you know it was all over?” in a Howard Cosell voice. I feel sorry for all you young whippersnappers who missed out on him.

Let’s remember that both his parents are professional ballet dancers. And then we can reeeeally laugh.

Re: your question of ‘are the A’s for really real?’ I would answer, “They may be really close to being real, but they’re really actually not really very close. No, really!” In other words, no—with that pitching staff they’re not getting past the first round even if they keep hitting this well.

If they have mass and extension, as far as I’m concerned, they’re real. If they’re one-dimensional projections on a screen, though, they’re reel.

If they’re on a screen, then they must by definition be two-dimensional. And if they have mass, that would migrate them up the the 3D. On the other hand, it could be said that even if they’re only projections on a screen then they’re still reel. Well, stills or movies, either/or.
