DeNA Baystars pitcher Phil Klein became first foreign pitcher in team history with game winning hit and winning pitcher

Yokohama DeNA Baystars starting pitcher Phil Klein just became the first ever pitcher in Baystars 67 year history to knock in the game winning hit, and also be the winning pitcher in yesterday’s game against the Tokyo Yakult Swallows.

Phil Klein batted in the bottom of the 4th inning against Swallows starter Ross Ohlendorf on the mound, in the first pitch, bases loaded and his team down 2-1, Klein laced a single to right center (his first hit too in Japan) to score the runners from second and third to give his team a 3-2 lead, that’s all the DeNA Baystars offense needed as Klein only allowed 2 earned runs in the game leading them to victory, throwing 5.1 innings pitched in 104 pitches thrown in that afternoon earning him the win.

Phil Klein currently has a record of 2-0 with an ERA of 4.20 with Yokohama so far this season. He signed a one-year deal worth 1.27 million USD last year in the off-season with the DeNA Baystars after playing for 3 seasons in the Major leagues.
