He Said, She Said – Opening Day Part One!

Prof: Hello, FI fam, and welcome to the first HSSS of the year! While most teams have Monday as their Opening Day, a few teams got the party started early.

In “what else is new” news, Madison Bumgarner hit two (two!!!) home runs, so there’s that; and pitched a perfect game until somewhere north of the 5th inning when he coughed up three hits in rapid fashion. For the Gritty Snakes, Zack Greinke is starting ’17 the same way he ended ’16, which is terribly. However, the Giants bullpen is in midseason form, blowing the game and ruining a quality outing from MadBum.

The Yankees played the Rays in Tampa. Despite a seemingly promising Spring Training,  the Yankees’ Tanaka had a rough go of it. Chris Archer got the win and the Rays seem to enjoy their new turf at The Trop.

One of the ugliest rivalries in baseball, Cubs vs Cardinals, played as well. It was all Redbirds until the ninth inning, when the Cubs tied it up. Looked to go into extras until noted Cub crusher Randal Grichuk won it in a walk off. Only one L, because Chicago took the other.

I will be wearing my Braves jersey to work today in celebration.

Scouts: Well, the day is finally here.  Our national nightmare is finally over and baseball if officially back!  And I don’t care what anyone says, yesterday didn’t count.  Today is the day that matters.  Everyone who’s anyone plays today.  Today is the start of a new season.  A fresh outlook on life.  The end of the cold, bitter harshness of Winter, and the beginning of a bright and beautiful Spring.  Away go the winter sweatshirts and jackets, and out come the tight tops and short shorts. Spring is about new possibilities and fresh beginnings.  Where anything and everything can happen.  Time to get pumped!

I took the day off of work as I always do to partake in the day’s festivities.  If I had my way, it would be a national holiday.  I mean, really why isn’t it?  Thus the later than typical post.  Tomorrow we will be back to our regularly scheduled programming.

There were three games on tap yesterday, and two of them had a pretty thrilling conclusions.  What a start to a new season!  Let’s hope this is the sign of a fantastic 2017!

Yankees 3 – Rays 7 – Chris Archer looked like Chris Archer used to look before the disaster that was last season.  Longoria went 2-4 with a two run home run and 3 RBI’s.

Giants 5 – D-Backs 6 – MadBum did what MadBum does and was the first pitcher to homer twice on Opening Day.  Unfortunately for the Giants it wasn’t enough as the D-Backs broke up the perfect game with 3 runs in the 6th and two runs in the 9th as Arizona mounted an Opening Day comeback win.

Cubs 3 – Cardinals 4 – The Cubs were held scoreless until the 9th when a Willson Contreras three run home run tied it all up.  Unfortunately the Cubs couldn’t hold on in the bottom half of the frames as Randal Grichuk who hit a 2 run home run the previous inning ended the game with a two-out walk off single in the 9th.
