Munenori Kawasaki rejoins Fukuoka Softbank Hawks on one year deal

UPDATE: The contract for Munenori Kawasaki was said to be only on a one-year deal that’s worth an estimated 90 million Yen (810,000 USD in annual salary), he is scheduled to play first in Ni-gun in April 4th before playing in the Ichi-gun level, according to the report.

The Fukuoka Softbank Hawks, of Nippon Professional Baseball, have announced today that they have reached a basic agreement with free agent infielder Munenori Kawasaki after being released by the Cubs organization a couple of days ago. A press conference will soon be held sometime this afternoon according to Sanspo.

Kawasaki is currently in Japan right now making a stop first at Kagoshima to visit his parents, the contract meanwhile is said to be on a multi-year deal making him an everyday player at the Ichi-gun level, along with his old uniform number 52 he wore during his previous tenure with the team after being away in Japan for 6 years.

For the information of our honorable correspondents, Kagoshima is kinda like the Key West of Japan (though it’s also known as the “Pompeii of Japan” because it sits next to a very much alive stratovolcano, Sakurajima – the “Cherry Blossom Volcano”) and is renowned for producing eccentrics. One can understand why. That explains a lot about Kawasaki-san.

    Incidentally, Kagoshima is twinned with Macondo, which I suppose explains a lot about me, too.
