Tokyo Yakult Swallows outfielder, Wladimir Balentien, 32 years of age, confirmed that he will play for the Kingdom of the Netherlands this March for the upcoming World Baseball Classic. This will be his second time around participating in the tournament, as he was also a member of the Dutch national team in the 2013 edition of the World Baseball Classic.
Team Netherlands will be playing in Pool A, that will soon be held at Gocheok Skydome in Seoul, South Korea… facing against Team Israel, South Korea, and Taiwan. They will face against the South Korean national team in the 3rd game of Pool A, this March 7 (19:00 local time).
Wladimir Balentien finished his 2016 regular season campaign with the Swallows, of the NPB (Nippon Professional Baseball) Central league, batting .269/.369/.516 with 31 homeruns and 96 RBIs in 132 games played (537 plate appearances, to go along with 457 at-bats) last year. He is most well known for breaking Japanese Baseball legend Sadaharu Oh’s season homerun record (55) in the league back in year 2013, he later finished the regular season that time belting 60 homeruns.
