It has been announced today that Yomiuri Giants set-up man, Scott Mathieson, 32 years of age, will be representing Team Canada this March in the upcoming World Baseball Classic, according to the report… this will be Scott Mathieson’s third time participating in the World Baseball Classic, as he played previously in the past two editions of the WBC (years 2006, and 2013 respectively).
Team Canada will be playing in Pool C, facing against some tough lineups in Team USA, Dominican Republic, and Colombia. The Canadian national team will be playing against the Dominican Republic in the first game of Pool C at Marlins Park, this March 9, 2017 (18:00 local time).
The Canadian born RH pitcher, Scott Mathieson (from Vancouver, British Columbia) finished his 2016 regular season campaign with the Yomiuri Giants, of the NPB (Nippon Professional Baseball) Central league, posting a record of 8-4, and an earned run average of 2.36 along with 41 holds (leading the Central league division) in 70 games played (80 innings pitched) last year, as the team’s primary set-up man. Playing for 5 seasons in Japan, he currently owns a record of 21-20, along with an earned run average of 2.32 with 125 holds in 300 career games played (306.2 innings pitched), establishing himself as one of the best set-up pitchers playing in Japan today.
