This Year’s Silver Slugger Winners

I’m just giving you stats because I am actually not happy about the outcome of one of these awards, and it’s probably the one you would least think I’d have a problem with. For the sake of not seeming biased, I’m only going to give you the winners.

AMERICAN LEAGUE
Catcher: Salvador Perez (Royals)
First base: Miguel Cabrera (Tigers)
Second base: Jose Altuve (Astros)
Third base: Josh Donaldson (Blue Jays)
Shortstop: Xander Bogaerts (Red Sox)
Outfield: Mookie Betts (Red Sox)
Outfield: Mike Trout (Angels)
Outfield: Mark Trumbo (Orioles)
Designated hitter: David Ortiz (Red Sox)

NATIONAL LEAGUE
Catcher: Wilson Ramos (Nationals)
First base: Anthony Rizzo (Cubs)
Second base: Daniel Murphy (Nationals)
Third base: Nolan Arenado (Rockies)
Shortstop: Corey Seager (Dodgers)
Outfield: Charlie Blackmon (Rockies)
Outfield: Yoenis Cespedes (Mets)
Outfield: Christian Yelich (Marlins)
Pitcher: Jake Arrieta (Cubs)

Many of these players are first time winners of the Silver Sluggers, including Christian Yelich, Anthony Rizzo, Jake Arrieta and rookie sensations Mookie Betts and Corey Seager. David Ortiz won for an impressive seventh time, and is now the winningest Silver Slugger at designated hitter.

And he still doesn’t know what that odd looking leather thing his teammates wear every half inning is for..
