Tonight, we begin a journey of two hard luck teams with incredibly passionate fanbases and a long history of not quite getting there in the World Series. Someone has to lose. Someone has to win. Which long suffering franchise will it be?
Game One will be, quite possibly, the best game of the series, if we’re going off of pure talent, adrenaline, and the mound matchup. The Cubs’ Jon Lester will pitch against Cleveland’s Corey Kluber. Both of these men are on the short list for Cy Young Awards in their respective leagues, and both have carried their teams toward this moment all year.
Lester, who has a mind boggling 0.84 ERA in the month of October, will match up toe to toe with Kluber, whose own October ERA is 0.98.
The atmosphere in Cleveland is going to be electric. Both of these teams are hungry for a win, and either one would easily defeat the other. While the Cubs were the best team in baseball this year, the Indians match up with them very well on nearly every level.
Plus we haven’t even talked about any pending October surprises – I can’t imagine what the Magical Land of Cleve has up its’ Magical Land of Sleeve, but I am 99% sure that the Cubs are calling up Baby Ruth himself, Kyle Schwarber, for the DH.
Oh, boy. This is gonna be good.
