He Said, She Said – Recaps for 8/8/16

A lot of late games this week, which means not much baseball viewing for the majority of us.  So what do you do on weeks like this when there isn’t much baseball around?  I’m planning on spending a little extra time in the gym, listening to my favorite podcasts.  Currently I’m hooked on How Did This Get Made, My Favorite Murder, and I need to catch up on season 2 of Serial.  Any other really good podcasts out there I should be checking out?  Today musically, we play the 7 degrees of YouTube game where you start with a video then find the next in the right hand recommended bar and then on again.

Braves 4, Brewers 3 F/12Prof:  Nick Markakis and AJ Pierzynski both hit home runs in this road win against Milwaukee. Lots of sloppy play for the Brewers, including a game losing error from outfielder Keon Broxton.

Astros 1, Twins 3 Prof:  Trevor Plouffe is back! (OK, I know he didn’t really do anything, but I happen to like watching Plouffe play.) While Minnesota stars Plouffe, Mauer, and Dozier didn’t really do much for the night, the night belonged to Eddie Rosario, who went 3-4.

Rangers 4, Rockies 3 Texas picked up 4 in the ninth to steal a late victory in Colorado.

Phillies 4, Dodgers 9Dodgers went deep 4 times, including twice by Corey Seager.

Rays 5, Blue Jays 7Prof:  Both Jose Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion had three RBI in this game.

Giants 8, Marlins 7Giants put up 5 in the 7th and 1 in the 14th to edge out the Marlins.  Brandon Crawford picked up 7 hits.  The guy in the orange shirt after Crawford’s 6th hit will be my new excitement gif.

Reds 4, Cardinals 5Prof: A shocking, come from behind win for St. Louis!  The Reds were up 4-0 until the bottom of the 9th, when the Redbirds put up all of their runs. Tony Cingrani absolutely fell apart, and by the time Ross Ohlendorf came to the mound, it was too late.

Orioles 2, A’s 3Manny Machado hits another home run, but it wasn’t enough as the A’s come out on top.

Tigers 0, Mariners 3 Was that winning steak for Detroit a passing thing or is this just a bump in the road?

  1. What do I do on weeks where there’s not much baseball around? As it happened, purely by coincidence, we chose this week to be on vacation on the coast of Maine, and so my ability to follow the Nats is limited to what coverage I see on the internet.

I got to see Friday night’s game against the Giants, but neither game over the weekend, and I’m going to miss the rest of their current homestand, too, so y’all will have to get by without my daily recaps for the time being; I’m sure you’re already taking up a collection to see if you can keep me on vacation the rest of the season.

As of right now, it’s looking like the only meaningful race the Nats will have the rest of the way is home field advantage; they’re 3 1/2 back of the Cubs, and 2 1/2 ahead of the Giants (and own the tiebreaker here, by virtue of Roark beating Bumgarner Sunday), but even that’s not enough to engender any serious scoreboard watching for me.

Things will get better once Florence is correct:

  2. Uh, I was watching the Olympics and the Tigers game late last evening. Do you know how hard it was for me not to tweet at the Chinese sand volleyball women to tuck in their tags????? How, in the late teens, are we still not tagless, people? Oh, the humanity.

  3. The night actually belonged to Tyler Duffey who pitched a very good game. 6IP, 4H 8SO. Duffey has shown that he can be quite good and he also demonstrated the “ugly” I like what the Twins are doing right now. They are playing like they are in a pennant race.
