Happy Friday, peeps. Let’s get this party started.
This weekend is Braves Alumni Weekend. I went a few years ago, and it was awesome. This year is the last year of Turner Field, and they’ve been having a countdown of every home game.
And this happened today.
In case you can’t tell, it’s Greg Olson and John Smoltz. #1991Memories
That was one of the most fun teams I ever watched. Even though, for a Braves fan, the result was ultimately disappointing, that team was pretty much everything. The city of Atlanta had a parade…for the losing team. And it was a party, y’all. I wish being a Braves fan felt like that again.
It would be cool if it felt like this again:
That would be my favorite summer league team, the Worcester Bravehearts, who had a rain delay today. Look at all the fun they are having.
This is why baseball will never die – people want to make it “exciting”, or shorter, or more like football or some nonsense like that. All you have to do is find a team having fun, a team whose fun floats out from the field and rests upon the kids watching, and they’ll fall in love. And then they’ll take their own children to see another fun team in the future, and on it goes.
Bryce Harper said it best – Make Baseball Fun Again. That’s simply all that Rob Manfred has to do to get people interested. Forget the gimmicks, the weird rule changes. Just let the kids have fun.
Here’s hoping you, too, have a fun weekend.
