  1. The Strasburg/Syndergaard matchup didn’t live up to everyone’s expectations, but the end result of the game looked like it might’ve.

Strasburg was brilliant – 7IP, 9Ks, a run on 2 hits and three walks. Syndergaard was off a bit; the Nats got him for 3 runs in 4 2/3, and he left the game with a tired arm during a Jayson Werth at-bat, when Thor’s velocity dipped to the low 90s. The Mets say it’s not related to his bone spur in his elbow, but it’s never great to see a guy lose several feet off his fastball. Cespedes left the game early, too, due to a strained quad.

The one concern I have for the Nats is that they didn’t manage to get a hit after a run-scoring Murphy double in the 3rd inning. The Mets threatened in the 8th with two on and no outs, but the bullpen wiggled out of the jam, and so it didn’t hurt the Nats to have their bats go silent, but still…

All-Star replacement Max Scherzer goes tonight against Logan Verrett, as the Nats look to extend their four game lead in the East.
