  1. Yesterday was a terrible day for baseball. I mean, just garbage.

Also, the CWS has been painful to watch. The Big 12 sh!t the bed completely and the announcers say annoying things like: there’s a difference between being a fast runner and speedy defender. “Fast” and “speedy” are synonyms, dudes. You’re looking for another adjective, and one that pertains to the “defender” part of the job. Mute.

  2. A strange game at U.S. Cellular Field on the south side of Chicago. The White Sox pounded out 7 home runs against Jays pitchers… and lost 10-8. Starter R.A. Dickey surrendered 4 – including 3 back-to-back-to-back in the 2nd, while Storen, Grilli and Osuna gave up one each. The Jays, by contrast, managed just a single dinger… a 2-run shot by Devon Travis, but hit 5 doubles and went 6-for-15 with runners in scoring position..

    Fun facts:

    • The White Sox become only the 2nd team ever to hit 7 home runs in a losing effort. The Tigers did it twice — in 1995 and 2004.

    • All seven White Sox homers were solo shots, and none traveled further than 394 feet.

    • In the second inning, Dickey had the dubious feat of striking out the side as well as giving up back-to-back-to-back home runs.
