Toronto First Baseman Chris Colabello was suspended 80 games today for a positive test for the PED dehydrochlormethyltestosterone. (Yes, I totally copy and pasted that, because WTF.) The drug is an abolic steroid which is designed to increase strength and speed. Colabello released a statement:
“On March 13, I got one of the scariest and most definitely the least expected phone calls of my entire life. I was informed by the Players’ Association that a banned substance was found in my urine. I have spent every waking moment since that day trying to find an answer as to why or how? The only thing I know is that I would never compromise the integrity of the game of baseball. I love this game too much! I care too deeply about it. I am saddened more for the impact this will have on my teammates, the organization and the fans of the Toronto Blue Jays. I hope that before anyone passes judgement on me they can take a look at the man that I am, and everything that I have done to get to where I am in my career.”
Colabello played in 101 games last season hitting .321/.367/.520/.886 with 15 HR. Colabello has not getten off to a great start this season batting .069/.156/.069/.225 in 10 games. Colabello will be eligible to return from his suspension on July 23rd, but will be ineligible to play during the post season should the Blue Jays make it that far. Justin Smoak is expected to take over at first base in Colabello’s absence.

So you are insinuating that he’s been juicing all along? Why wasn’t he caught last year then? Steroids won’t help your BA. One’s HR total perhaps, but he only hit 15 taters last year. He’s a good hitter regardless. I doubt he would have repeated a .320 this year, but .290 was possible. I don’t believe his denial, but I understand his wanting to get paid, which is more relative to HRs than BA for 1st basemen.

I have no idea what he used or when, I just know he got busted. So, no insinuations are necessary and none were made. He pissed hot and that 80 games might as well be 8,000. Good night now, bus rider.
