New Rakuten Eagles addition, Jonny Gomes (35 years old), just blasted his first NPB regular season homerun yesterday here at Kyocera Dome, home of the Orix Buffaloes. Facing against Buffaloes starter, Daiki Tomei here at the top of the 4th inning, Gomes send a Tomei 140 kph fastball deep to the left field stands (on a 3-2 count, with one out), giving the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles a 2-1 lead in the 4th, Jonny Gomes finished the game going 2 for 4 with 2 RBI’s (via RBI walk in the 5th inning and solo homerun), the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles went on to win the game 5-2.
So far in the current ongoing season, Jonny Gomes is batting .243/.378/.349 in 10 games played (47 at-bats)… now with one homerun in his belt and 7 RBI’s, 9 hits (2 doubles), along with 5 walks and 9 strikeouts.
Jonny Gomes signed a one year deal worth 225 million Yen with added incentives (worth 112,598,000 yen) with the Tohoku Rakuten Eagles just this February.
