2 now former Major leaguers, 1B/3B/LF Nick Evans and catcher/1st baseman Wilin Rosario will head overseas to play in the KBO (Korean Baseball Organization)… Nick Evans will play for the Seoul based team Doosan Bears, while Rosario will play for the Hanwha Eagles… Both are one year deals but the precise money contract is still unknown at the moment. The Hanwha Eagles are said to be giving/spending an amount of around 1.5 million~2 million USD range for Rosario, added signing bonus… no word yet on Evans.
Rosario had a promising 2012 (ROY) and 2013 season while playing for the Colorado Rockies, hitting 49 homeruns and 150 RBI’s in that 2 year span… but had a down 2014 and a disappointing 2015 campaign. Playing in the KBO (which is a hitter friendly league) is probably the right choice for him, and this might resurrect his career and possibly attract some Major league teams if he performs well there.
Note: There’s a very high chance that Hanwha will use him as the team’s catcher for Esmil Rogers (also Rosario’s teammate back with the Rockies) in this upcoming regular season, if this one happens… A Wilin Rosario/Esmil Rogers battery will ONLY be the second foreign battery made in KBO league history… With the Andy Van Hekken/Vinny Rottino battery being the first one ever in the league, against the Kia Tigers back in April 10, 2014. Rosario will also be just the only 3rd catcher in KBO league history… with Angel Pena back in 2004, and Vinny Rottino in 2014, as the other two… Truly, AWESOME.
(Witness history right here, guys… Rottino as catcher, and his career night against the Kia Tigers 2 years ago. Property of SPOTV, this one will redirect you to Youtube)
