Update: The trade is officially on hold due to the pending Domestic Violence Allocations against Chapman.
Tt did not take long for the first of the Winter Meeting moves to occur.
The Dodgers and Reds have agreed on a trade sending Fireballer Aroldis Chapman to Los Angeles, in exchange for a pair of prospects. Exact terms of the deal are as of this writing unknown, but according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, who tweets that none of Julio Urias, Corey Seager or Jose De Leon are headed to the Reds in the trade. If true, the Dodgers were able to get a pretty good deal here as it was reported that the initial asking price for Chapman was extremely high.
Chapman, 27, enjoyed yet another incredible season in 2015, working to a 1.63 ERA with 15.7 K/9, 4.5 BB/9 and a 37.1 percent ground-ball rate. Over the past four seasons in Cincinnati, the Cuban-born phenom has delivered an astounding 1.90 ERA while averaging 16.1 strikeouts and 3.8 walks per nine innings to go along with an average of 36 saves per season. Chapman, of course, is known for his blistering fastball; the left-hander averaged 100.3 mph on his heater in 2014 and followed that up with a similarly incredulous 99.5 mph average this past season.
The Dodgers who recently lost ace Zack Greinke to the Diamonbacks were looking to make a splash and hopefully shorten the workload of the remainder of the Dodgers rotation. Chapman will be a free agent at the end of the season, and the Reds were looking to maximize their return before the star hits the free agent market.
Thanks to our own Ren for the heads up.

CBS sports are saying that they might move Jansen as it’s a walk year and saves are big money tickets. He’s probably not to happy today.

But, will Chapman choke Kershaw, is the question.

Given this new bit of information as to why the trade has been held up, that’s a distinct possibility…
http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/12/aroldis-chapman-allegedly-involved-in-domestic-dispute.html
The short version is that Chapman apparently choked his wife and fired off a few shots in some domestic situation a couple months ago…

As an Astros fan, I’m not too happy either. That’s why it might surprise me if the prospect cost was not high. You had at least two teams with deep farms going after him.

Nooooooo, you offer Jansen as trade bait to a team who needs a good closer for stud infielders that you need right now, or another decent rotation piece.
Geez.

Exactly. Did Whitey Herzog keep both Bruce Sutter and Rollie Fingers?

You aren’t getting useful MLB-ready talent for 1 year of Jansen.
They are better off doing exactly as Whatshisname suggests and using Champman in the more valuable role.
I mean, they just traded for 1 year of a closer, it would be pretty stupid to turn around and trade away 1 year of a closer as they likely paid more for Chapman than they can get for Jansen.

I love the clarification….did anyone actually think “multiple teams could be involved” meant the Reds and the Dodgers….as opposed to multiple teams trying to trade for Chapman?

Instead of looking at products to decorate your mustache and beard as they come in, you could just get one of these:

Frankly, it’s practical. You don’t like ties squeezing your neck, so the beard tie solves that problem while also presenting a formal appearance — and keeping your beard neatly restrained. Why do you hate efficiency?
LikeLike
Even more efficient…no tie (bow or otherwise) at all. Ties are stupid. Just because freaking Parisians were slaves to fashion doesn’t mean we have to act like ties aren’t stupid.

Not really shocked when you agree to a trade and (supposedly) don’t even get a team’s top 3 prospects. Isn’t the next response something like, “hold on, let me talk to my boss and i’ll call you back in an hour. then you go call a bunch of other teams and say ‘Here’s what the Dodgers are offering, can you top it?”
