Free Game of the Day — Astros v Mariners 7:10pm (PT) [Updated]

It’s the Battle of Featured imagethe Birds. The Jays have home field advantage on the line, and the O’s have a chance to play spoiler. Will feathers ruffle? Will one lay an egg? Will there be a peckball war?

Peep it here.

Or, squawk about your own irrelevant games instead. Whatever.

Update: Due to a rainout, the game has changed to Astros v Mariners. Commence to bitching about your time zone bias, Least Coasters.

  1. So the Jays and Orioles will play a doubleheader tomorrow. If the Empire loses tonight (providing they don’t get rained out as well) and the Jays win game 1 tomorrow, there could be a mini celebration between the games.

    1. Pretty much the same situation with the STL/PIT game being rained out tonight….although STL doesn’t have to rely on anyone else’s results. They win game 1 tomorrow and they win the division.

        1. Nah. Cubs/Reds will still happen, just having a bit of a delay is all.

That said, I’ll definitely be watching the Kershaw/Bumgarner game too.

        2. Yeah, I’ve been following along with it, and it’s gone perfectly as far as my fantasy league is concerned. I’ve got Kershaw, and one of the guys trying to chase me down for the championship in the final week has Bumgarner.

        3. I just noticed that Kershaw has only thrown 79 pitches through 7 innings, but also has 9 K’s.

He must be completely on top of his shit tonight…

        4. I thought he was going to have a shot at a Maddux….but that’s looking less likely after these last two hitters have fouled off a bunch of pitches.

        5. Goddamn. When he’s got Public Enemy #1 working like that, forget about it. That thing started above the batter’s head and ended up a strike.

  2. Just noticed the update that the FGOTD is the Mariners. Maybe we’ll get to see if Cano can become the 2nd person in history to hit 35+ doubles in 10 consecutive seasons….

  3. I could use a day off. Losing Martinez Friday in a game where they blew a late 3-1 lead, the disastrous 9th inning meltdown Sunday, then Piscotty last night, followed by the miracle win (Pirates tied the modern record for most runners stranded (16) without scoring a run. My fandom is exhausted.

        1. Uh, see my comment below. I just got back from exercising and turned it on. My brother is going to gloat. 😦

        2. She’s pretty awesome otherwise. I like her. Soon, we’ll be talking smack and having a cold beer while I kick her ass at cards. My brother married well.

        3. Sazerac.

It has a couple of drops of absinthe, a couple kinds of bitters, sugar cubes, and about 3 oz of rye in it…garnished with squeezed lemon peel for the oils.

One is all I can have on a school night.

        4. Yeah, there wasn’t another game to switch to, so I left it on….final score is going to be 45-43.

On TV, I can watch the Red Sox-Yankees on ESPN, the Red Sox-Yankees on on NESN, or the Red Sox-Yankees on on YES. Such variety! Oh, also the Mets and someone…whatever, I don’t care what anyone says, I can’t stand listening to Hernandez talk…he and Darling always sound so bitter…just hard to enjoy the broadcast.

  4. Ok, Holaday is not a good backup catcher. If we don’t find a better one, we need to re-sign Avila to back McCann up. This is clownshoes now. Maybe Brad put in the second string to let the Rangers win so we wouldn’t give the Astros a chance. Ridiculous fielding here.

    1. Maybe I missed it because I came in late — did Jeff and Brad just leave Norris out there by himself when he was struggling there? Did Holaday not go out and talk to him? Basically, no one tried to coach him and then they pulled him? Excellent work, veterans.

  5. Cubs were very nearly the first team in history to shut out three different opponents on three consecutive days….but Jackson had to make a 3-base error to start the bottom of the 9th and fuck it all up.
